This a game for you. But also you need to have a taest of alot multiplayer. And alot less of singal player action.

Halo Wars Needs more credit than it deserves

Pros Cons
Amazing visuals Repetitive gameplay
Intense action Braindead computer AI
Addictive gameplay

I've gotten halo wars for a week now and it is fantastic. Yeah, it is a tactical game and kind of command and conqeur and its not a first person shooter but that's what makes it interesting. I think it is an amazing seqeul to the Halo trilogies and i think it represents the game well. The controls are easy to grasp and a wide variety of soldiers and infantry which makes it better. In the new skrimish matches you can choose from either the UNSC or the Covenant and 3 additional leaders for each race. Overall this is one of the best games I've bought and it is worth it.

I recently bought Halo Wars and i loved it! First of all I am a huge fan of RTS games and when i played halo wars it had everything you would want for a halo type RTS i love playing against my friends. But there is only one thing I'm not happy about, you cant play as the covenant in campaign also the maps are really small. I think Ensemble Studios should come out with a sequel updating everything from Halo Wars. But over all the game is great amazing graphics and great audio. Though before it came out i was worried that with out the mouse how could you play an RTS game on the 360 but since I've played its even easier then using a mouse.

I am a RTS novice so I had a lot of fun but i know a RTS freak(no offence) he plays starcraft 3 days straight. I love halo so I picked this up and had fun the mutiplayer needs improvements. But it makes good use of what is has so I still play online I wish there will be updates.*sigh*

What if it wasn't called Halo

I would consider myself almost an expert on the console RTS genre. Ive always loved strategy games, but have never had a computer so I've had to settle(warcrat2 for ps one). but thankfully as of late more and more developers are putting more and more time into porting their awesome games to consoles, but halo wars i unique in that it was made for consoles.

The accesability is nice and the game whil lacking any extraordinary visuals never slows down, (which many console counterparts often do). but there are some issues that some of the other console rts has down much better than halo. i.e. command and conquer you can group and cycle units with just a single button and acces your interface from any where on the map. you can build entire armies, and set their pathfindings all with a relatively simple learning curve.

while halo wars has an awesome story and more action-centric gameplay, it certainly lacks what truly makes a strategy game a strategy game. with a limited selection of units and structures; and almost zero base building and resource collcetion possibilities, the gameplay becomes almost shallow. Once the initial awe factor that you get to build scorpion tanks wears off, it becomes nothing more than the same race of who can build the most stuff first to attack the same identical base over and over.

so while I definetly appreciate what it is ensemble studios has done, in almost singlehandedly making the console RTS popular almost overnight, I can't help but think people would be giving this game a lesser score(such as myself) if it didn't have the halo name to it.

short, and sweet

I am going to make this short and say this game is good for halo fans and rts noobs but if your a true rts veteran this game wont offer much challenge or fun for you.

Halo Wars

Halo Wars:
Halo Wars (for those of you who have been hiding in a hole for the last like 3 years) is a console RTS for the Xbox 360 based off the popular Halo franchise (Hence the word Halo in the title). It goes back in time ten years before the first Halo when us Earthlings are just discovering the Covenant and getting our asses handed to us on a platinum plate with gold Greenbeans. That's where you come in. You direct the units around the battlefield to go kick the Covenant's little tusche. The Story is pretty good but the cutscenes are absolutely breathtaking. I don't think I've ever seen better. Everything from the feel to how the characters move to how they talk is amazing. Even the action is like a real movie. I could probably watch them all over again about 30 more times (Which is possible thanks to theater mode which lets you view any of the cutscenes but unfortuneatley not gameplay). On the side of actual Gameplay Halo Wars is an RTS on a console so you can't expect extremely massive battles with 100 units apiece. Instead Ensemble went for a unit cap which is the best decision in that particular case but it can be rather disappointing some times. Also you can't build as many building as you want. Instead you can have a max of 7 buildings tied into one tiny area which makes you think a little bit about what building you want and when. Then there's the controls which are surprisingly simple and easy to learn. While there's no micromanaging of specific units it's not really needed except in online. Onto the Campaign. The campaign is OK but can't compare to the skirmishes. They offer up a variety of missions with everything from protect these units to save these guys to go kill the other guys. Then there's the Skirmishes. You can play them Online with Friends or by yourself against a computer. You can do 1v1 or 3v3 or anything in between (A.K.A. 2v2). The Online matches are the highlight though because your simply playing with other people. While playing by yourself with others is good playing with Friends is even better. So if you have any friends play with them over random people. Overall Halo Wars is a great addition to the Halo franchise that every diehard Halo fan should pick up.
