SURELY, everyone knows about a music game, whether it's Guitar Hero or Rock Band (who knows what game number each series is on now). In it, people wield a plastic guitar with five colorful buttons and a simple 3 way switch where an actual guitar player would strum the strings with either his hand or a plectrum (pick in modern lingo).
Everyone from little kids, highschoolers and middleschoolers (undoubtedly the targeted demographic), and even younger adults could get in on the fun without actually having the neck mastered. Difficulty could be adjusted (although "expert" is still not as hard as the real thing.), then anyone could have a good time.
What really pisses me off is the pricks that think because they can play a fake version of a guitar and get a 96% on expert of some damn song, think they could play the actual guitar. I can't remember exactly when guitar hero really caught on, but for the record lets say it was when i was in 8th grade (...around 2006, 07? I cant remember stuff like that, because i really dont care what year i was in what grade). Since then, almost every male in my school (middle school especially because if highschoolers werent as traumatized by it, it would make sense that the 7th and 8th graders of 2007 [the freshman and sophmores now] played guitar, and even some girls started.
Now, (as stated on EncyclopediaDramatica, but is still, sadly, true) there are tons of "guitarists" running around that think they can shred because they can play the first 10 seconds of all of their favorite songs.
The worse thing about this (i have no qualms with people discovering the power of music) is their goddamned arrogance. I've been playing guitar since the 2nd grade, but because i cant play any of those "popular" songs, i am somehow less skilled then them.
I was playing a lick from a song by a man named Mississippi John Hurt, a very talented Delta Bluesman, and this fucking retard said "Is that Mario or something?". He then took the guitar and played a riff from some song from some obscure band with a name like "Bucket of Mud" or some retarded shit like that and said "THAT's music". He couldnt even play the whole song, or tell me any of the notes he played, and he fumbled the whole goddamned thing anyway. It's called respect, and no one has it.
If, in the last 3 or 4 years, the amount of people you know that play guitar (I'm mainly talking to highschoolers and middleschoolers, some college kids, so this may not apply) has shot thru the roof, then you know what I'm talking about.
