i've been doing some reading and it seems like a lot of the 80gig models don't have a problem. the older 40 and 60 gigs do.
although i have read that some of the new slims were effected too.
mine is still borked.

anyone else having issues with an older PS3 after 3.0 or 3.01?
been checking the official playstation forums (and hoping someone has a fix) and it seems the issue is pretty common is 40, 60 and 80gb models bought over 1.5 years ago.

well the 60GB model is indeed, old. oldest chip, highest power consumption. the 60GB model isn't really the best choice to have anymore when you start to realize it.
